Harvest Festival in Day Care and a visit with Dorte

On October 22, 2009 Sofie's daycare center had a Harvest Festival. All the children had picked and prepared fruit and the adults made apple pie, cake and rolls. It was a great opportunity to meet the other parents of the children Sofie is in care with. Below are a few photos and videos.

The children wait for their cake.

Yummie ......

Video of Sofie and Anton playing before the festival.

A view of some of the parents. Sofie sits in the middle of the room and managed to crawl on almost every parent in the room.

One of the bigger boys preparing the 'æblekage' which is a type of trifle without jelly. Using layers of apple, crushed macaroons and whipped cream.

Waiting to get their cake

Sofie enjoyed 'æblekage' and didn't want any dinner that night

More play afterwards ...

The next day we visited Dorte and Filipa in Frederiksberg

The attic in their house was a play room with balls, matresses and a swing!! Sofie loved the swing

Filipa did too even though she gets to swing daily

Getting used to new routines in daycare and a ride on a slippery dip

Today, Monday October 5 was Sofie's third day in public care. She spent half of the morning alone and it went well with no tears or drama. Below are a few photos mum took before she left Sofie alone.

Last week Sofie spent all her time indoors but this week she will be slowly getting used to the routine of getting out into the play area every morning before lunch. Sofie was very fascinated by the two chooks that have a pen in the play ground.

........ and she also loved giving this old horse some grass. These horses live right next to the childrens play ground which the children just love.

October 6, was a big day for Sofie as it was the first time she slept at the childcare center. She did really well and actually slept for two hours which is great considering the center and the cots there are new for her.

Below are a few videos of the morning before mum left.

Back at home that afternoon....

All of Sofie's toys now have a place and this dog made by her cousin Daniel now lives in the box her Ecco boots arrived in. We aren't too sure why she drums the box everytime she closes it.

Sofie checking to see whether all her passengers are OK. Notice the hat she is wearing which arrived with the post today and was handmade by grandma.

A close-up of the great hat that will keep Sofie's head nice and warm.

Playing with lego bricks is popular.

Last lesson at level 2 and it was play time and Sofie got to have a ride on a slippery dip.

Relaxing an a floating mat!

More walking exercises. Sofie stands up on her own now!

A trip to the beach and Sofie keeps warm in her Chariot now equipped with a very warm sleeping bag ready for winter.

Hands and head keep warm in gloves and hat given to her by one of Mums girlfriend. These along with the great hat from grandma are sure to keep her warm this winter.

The first weekend of October

Autumn has definitely arrived in Denmark with stormy winds and lots of rain. We spent Saturday of the first stormy weekend of October visiting our friends Anne and Ulrik and their 4 week old son, Anders. We all had a good time, below are a few photos and videos.

Anne with Anders who is just a wonderful baby boy whom seems to just sleep and eat.

Anders sleeping.

Sofie seemed quite unsure about Anders and I don't think she realised he was a baby but she really wanted to show him her book of Australian animals.

Dad and Sofie playing with the ambulance we gave Anders.

Mum also got to hold Anders. Amazing to think that when Sofie weighed 4 kg we thought she was so big. Now 4kg just feels like nothing.

Then it was time to make dinner and Sofie enjoyed sitting up on the counter watching everything be prepared.

For more photos of the evening see Anne and Ulrik's blog here

Sunday, October 4 was spent relaxing and ringing one of mums sisters on Skype.

A photo of Sofie. As can be seen in this photo we are putting shoes on her more often and she has stopped trying to pull them off.

Sofie loves to rock - just check out those dance moves.

Sofie needs boots that can support her feet so we bought this pair of Ecco boots for her. They are waterproof and warm so should be perfect for all the outdoor activities she'll be participating in with the daycare centre. They were on special and reduced from 600 kr to 350 kr!!!

Sofie's first two days in public daycare (vuggestue)

On Thursday, October 1, 2009 Sofie had her first day in public daycare. It went really well and surprisingly enough she started eating with a fork at lunchtime!! Amazing how quickly children learn from each other. Drinking water from a cup is still a challenge for her. Until now Sofie has been in private care with a little boy who is 8 months older than her. She must really be used to older boys now as she only wanted to play with the two oldest boys in her group.

Sofie playing with some of the older boys in her group.

A video of their game putting nuts into containers kept them busy for ages.

Waiting patiently for lunch.

A video of all the children at Sofie's lunch table

Yummie food. Today the menu was salmon and potatoes served with green string beans. The kitchen staff work at the center so the food at lunch is always warm.

Eating breakfast with a spoon before her second day in care.

The Olympic Congress 2009 was held in Copenhagen. On Friday while we were eating breakfast we heard people ranting 'Tokyo, Tokyo, Tokyo ... ' when we went out on our balcony we could see that all the Japenese visitors were outside the SAS Radisson hotel.

Rebecca with a bowl on her head.

Zoe turns 2 years old on Sunday so it was time to celebrate her with morning fruit and freshly baked carrot rolls.

Itzy bitzy spider (in Danish)

Happy Birthday to you (in Danish).

Sofie seemed quite shy when she was offered a roll with a nice little flag in it.

One of the bigger boys that Sofie plays with (Tristan) built a very nice wall.

Lunchtime and the babies/toddlers were impatient.

Sofie gets a farewell kiss from Anton. Another good day in care and today Sofie was alone for 1.5hours. Next week she will have her first full day so we are hoping that goes just as well.
