Days 8 to 11. Yosemite National Park.

We stay at Tenaya Lodge at the gate of Yosemite and spend 4 days sightseeing and doing great walks in the park. The granite structures are just amazing and one feels quite small wandering through the park.

El Capitan a very very popular climbing destination. Dad got itchy feet when he saw this.

A short walk took us to Bridalveil Falls.

Yosemite Falls seen in the distance. Later that week mum climbed to the top of these.

The next day we spend our time walking to Mirror lake, this was a nice easy walk and a great swim opportunity.

Sofie dipped as well.

The following day we do some harder walks to Sentinel Dome, Tats point and Glacier point. Check out the photos and video below.

The next day we climbed to the top of Yosemite Falls, the worlds second highest falls. Dad & Sofie turned around hafway due to heat but mum made it up.

USA, California 2009 - days 1 to 6 in Sacramento and Lake Tahoe

On July 18, we depart for a three week vacation to California.

Day 1.

Dad & Sofie in the Diners lounge at Kastrup airport.
Close-up of Sofie eating her apple.

Dad has a conference so he buys his flight ticket through work. Sofie and mum thus travel alone on a cheaper flight. This is us about to board at Kastrup airport.

It was a tough flight for both of us and in this photo one can see how busted we are after 15 hours of travel time flying from Copenhagen to San Francisco via Frankfurt. Sofie had slept almost half the journey but mum hadn't slept a wink.

We went directly to our pre-booked luxury Westin Hotel and planned to stay up until dad arrived. However, Sofie fell asleep as soon as we ot to our room. Breakfast wasn't included so the next day we ate breakfast at 'Denny's' which served cheap but not too healthy breakfast. Sofie did love it though.

..... and dad did too.

Day 2 Outlet shopping in Gilroy and driving to Sacramento.

On our way to Sacramento we do some serious shopping at the Gilroy Outlet stores. Great deals on labels like Hugo Boss, Nike, Hillfinger, Gap, Ralph Lauren ...... we also bought lots of clothes for Sofie. In this photo she models a cute t.shirt.

Jetlag is really tough for Sofie but she still manages to keep smiling.

Day 3 Sight seeing in Sacramento.

Sacramento has a lovely 'Old town' and we spend the day sight seeing here. The area was a hub in the gold mining era.

A closer view of dad and Sofie.

Sacramento is the Capitol of California and in this photo mum & Sofie stand in front of The Capitol. This is where Arnold Terminator sits!

Days 4 to 5. lake Tahoe.

We the head for lake Tahoe and end up staying at Harveys which is a monster hotel and actually a casino.

On our first day here we drive the whole way around lake Tahoe ca. 115 km. This lake is 500 m deep, 35 km long and 19 km wide and a VERY popular destination for holiday makers. In this photo we eat lunch near Emerald bay.

Emerald bay.

Mum & Sofie at Emerald bay.

It's really hot in the mid 30's and we are still all feeling jetlagged. But we still manage a nice walk at Taylor Creek. This is one of the 60 waterways that lead into lake Tahoe, whilst only one leads from the lake and doesn't even make it to the ocean.

The view at Taylor creek.

Day 8

We get up relatively early to beat the sun and do a great walk to Eagle Falls over Emerald Bay. In this photo one can see a very curious Chipmunk.

Mum carrying Sofie on the first part of the walk.

The pools above the Falls.

Dad & Sofie at Emerald Bay.

A popular way of getting around Lake Tahoe is by Riverboat.

Sofie gets to dip her toes. The water is cold but nice and refreshing.

Sofie enjoying some goats cheese for lunch.

Back at the Hotel we visit the Casino but a promptly asked to leave as Sofie is under 21 years of age :)

Back at our hotel Sofie enjoys her book.

A Danish heatwave and getting prepared for 3 weeks in California

Summer had arrived in Denmark whilst we were away in Iceland and it was really hot.

Mum & dad swam in the harbor and as can be seen here Sofie paddled in her bath tub.

Sofie having a good splash

Sofie and another little girl playing in the doctors waiting room. They looked so grown up sitting at their small table!

Vroom vroom ...... Sofie follows mum and dad in her car whilst they go shopping for groceries.

Sofie and mum checking out the aquarium in the shopping center.

Sofie is getting better and better at picking up small pieces of food and putting them in her mouth.

We had a tough weekend as Sofie has started her asthma medicine which meant sleepless nights due to coughing attacks. However, she was in quite good form Sunday evening after sleeping most of the day and we got a visit from Line and Martin. Sofie is just crazy about Line. In this photo they are giving each other a Greenlandic kiss by rubbing noses. This is something Sofie loves doing.

Sofie having a good laugh with Line.

Check out how well Sofie can throw the ball to dad.

On Tuesday night Lars Hug was playing in the 'Jazz Festival by the Sea' we really like him but couldn't go with Sofie. Instead we did a walk along the harbour around the time the concert started and listened a little whilst we played with Sofie in a park.

The sea-saw for small children was a hit

On July 9, Sofie moved forwards instead of backwards for the first time. Check out the alternative technique she has!!

We try to incorporate Sofie's inhalation mask into our play time. In this photo Winnie the Pooh has the mask on and this made Sofie laugh. Dad and mum also place the mask onto each others face so Sofie becomes curious about it.

Sofie gets to study the mask as well.

We have removed the rug from Sofie's bedroom as recommended. Her new plat mat can be used for many things. In this photo we have spelled out her name.

Our last weekend before heading off to California was spent doing some major alterations to mum & dads bedroom. This included an elevation bed, wall to wall closets, desk and TV!!!

In this photo Sofie is trying out the first module of the new closet for comfort.

Mum found an organic free range chicken that she baked for dad & Sofie. In this photo Sofie is cleaning off a drum stick!! Notice how much hair she now has and it's curly just like her mum's was when she was a baby. See the black & white photo below.

Sofie hasn't really started crawling properly as she still reminds us of a crab with a hangover but she has begun lifting herself up on all of our furniture as can be seen in these two shots.
Sofie is responding very well to the new inhalation therapy and is now symptom free with now coughs or wheezing whilst awake or asleep. She is much more alert, active and needs less naps during the day.

Sofie's passion for books is amazing she enjoys her touch and feel books more and more and also loves her bedtime story of 'Winnie the Pooh and friends.

As can be seen in this video Sofie has much more energy now and no wheezing while she exerts herself.

Check out the size of the sandwiches Sofie now digs into at lunch time. She just loves black bread with warmed liver paté.

All our morning and evening meals are spent on our verandas. Great. In this photo Sofie is being feed oatmeal porridge with homemade stewed apple. YUM. Mum and dad actually like this as well and on the weekends we often all eat porridge.

Sofie is ready for the trip now. When you ask Sofie how tall she is she lifts her arms in the air!!
